Case Study 6 - Quarry
This is a quarry processing 1,000 tph of limestone. The material is crushed by an in-pit mobile primary crusher and then the material is brought up to a large stockpile near the processing plant. Depending on the weather conditions and height of the stockpile, the dust from the discharge onto the stockpile can bellow across the site, affecting other staff in the area, drifting to the site offices and potentially being visible to neighbours.
Attempts had been made to douse the material at the discharge point with water sprays. Despite using copious amount of water these were not able to resolve the issue.
Following a site survey, Best-Chem recommended deploying a Foam Dust Suppression System.
The Foam system applies foam at the two transfer points prior to the final discharge onto the stockpile. This ensures the foam can adequately mix with the material and capture all of the fines.
The system provides instant results and the difference between system on and off is clear. The foam system also uses 60% less water than the water sprays that were in place previously.
