Average reduction in airborne dust using foam systems

General Dust Suppression

What information do you need to provide a quote?

Depending on the nature of the dust problem, we typically require:

  • Description of the issue
  • Layout drawings / Process flow sheet
  • Photos / videos
  • Do you have your own installation team?

Based on this initial information we can begin outlining a solution.

This will then lead to further detailed information gathering and possibly a site survey.

Foam Systems

What quality of water do you need?

The water does not need to be potable. Foam system have large orifice nozzles that are not susceptible to blocking. Sediment can however affect valves and pumps in the system, sow e filter to 50 micron.
Very hard water may affect foaming efficiency. If this is the case we would need to carry out testing to ensure compatibility.

Will the product cause material to stick together?

Our standard foaming agents suppress dust by efficiently dampening the dust particles, using only minimal moisture. They do not contain any additional binders or ‘tackifiers’. In situations where you want to separate the dust, and avoid dust sticking to larger material, this would be the recommended product.

For instances where additional binding of dust particles is advantageous, we have foaming agents with binders. These also provide extended dust control, trapping dust after the material has dried out.

Are the nozzles prone to blocking?

Best-Chem Foam Systems use a specially custom built nozzle, with a large orifice. This eliminates blocking issues and allows optimum foam delivery.

How much water will it use?

This will depend on the application. Water addition can range form 0.1-0.5% by weight of material.

Where can I get the chemical?

The chemical is manufactured in-house our own facility in the UK.

How is the chemical supplied?

The chemical is supplied in 1,000L IBCs. Bulk deliveries can be arranged on request.

How much does it cost?

Due to the wide range of projects we undertake, it is difficult to give an broad cost. However, if you speak to one of our representatives, we can obtain some initial information and provide a budget costs.

Capital Cost: Equipment + Installation

Operating Costs: Chemical + Maintenance

How long to install?

Most installations are completed within a week, larger installs can run to 4-5 weeks.

With containerised systems, the plant room is fabricated off site reducing on site installation time. Much of the onsite work can be done during normal operations, with only a limited amount of work requiring shutdowns and plant isolations.

With every install, a Best-Chem Project Manager will meet with the client and agree a safe and efficient installation plan. This will then be documented and submitted for review and approval prior to arrival on site.

Can it be integrated to my plant control system?

Yes, all systems are designed to be activated by the client’s control signals. We can discuss specific requirements and design a system to suit. This includes considering; signalling, alarms, consumption information, tank monitoring, automatic remote operation, operator manual override and ensuring compatibility and compliance with customer Standards.

Do you offer training?

Yes, Best-Chem are happy to train staff in the operation and maintenance of the system ensuring they are familiar with safety procedures, isolations, operation and maintenance tasks.

In addition to the manual, training handouts and training logs can be provided.

What are the maintenance requirements?

Each system will be accompanied via a manual detailing the weekly, monthly inspections.

We can provide training to your maintenance staff to ensure they are familiar with the maintenance procedures, or we can provide a Service Contract, whereby the equipment is regularly service by our experienced service engineers.

Do you offer service plans?

Yes, services are carried out by our dedicated teams of directly employed service engineers. This ensures the continued availability and effectiveness of the dust control system.

Following each service the Client is provided with a detailed report and notified of any recommendations or further action.

The service frequency will depend on the equipment, the site, usage pattern and criticality of the dust control system. They range from monthly to twice a year.

Do you offer trials / demonstrations?

Yes, we have demonstration equipment which can usually be installed within a few hours. The great thing about our Foam Dust Suppression System is that the result in terms of dust reduction is immediate and clear to see.

Misting Systems

Do I need compressed air?

No. Best-Chem Misting Systems utilise a high-pressure pump to force water through fine nozzles, thereby generating the mist. There is therefore no need for a compressor.

What quality / pressure of water do I need?

The systems require a supply of clean, cold potable water at a minimum of 2 bar pressure

What pressure does the system operate at?

The system operates at 70 bar.

What type of pipework is involved?

The pipework is either High Pressure Nylon tubing, or stainless steel pipes. Depending on the pipework, we have a full range of high-pressure push-fit fittings to assemble the discharge pipework and misting lines.

What filtration is required?

Systems include 5 and 10 micron sediment filters and an ultraviolet water sterilisation unit.

What is the droplet size?

The average droplet size varies from 3 to 20 microns, depending on the chosen nozzle. Our team can assess your application and recommend the most appropriate nozzle size and configuration.

How is it controlled?

There are several activation options available, including: sensors, client signals, push button stations, remote control or programmable timers.

Sprinkler Systems

How is the system controlled?

Each system can be divided into multiple zones or areas, with the activations controlled via a centrally located programmable timer. Remote controls are available and we can also now provide an app- or web- based systems.

Do the systems have automatic weekly programs?

Yes, flexible daily/weekly schedules can be set up with scheduled activation and run times.

Is the program easily adjustable?

The controllers are very easy to use, and training and manuals will be provided.

Does the system have rain sensors?

Yes, rain sensors are included to automatically pause the system during inclement weather

What is the spray distance of a sprinkler?

Sprinkler spray distances range from 3 to 35m. Our team will design an efficient layout for you, considering pipe routes, sizes, coverage, flow and pressures whilst ensuring a cost effective approach.

How is the system protected from frost?

There are several options. Firstly, with all installations we ensure there are adequate isolation and drain down points. The next option is to automatically control the drain down points and finally we can trace heat the lines. In some instances, a combination of the above may be appropriate for different sections of the installation.

What quality of water is required?

The system will require a supply of clean cold water and will be filtered down to 50 micron. With all water systems we recommend a legionella risk assessment is carried out and the recommended control measures are implemented.

Do I need a water tank?

Depending on the water source and expected demand, our team will recommend if a tank is required and what capacity. Supply and installation of the tank can be included in the project scope.
